Karyne (00:00:07) – Hi fantasy readers. This is Karyne Norton, your fellow book binger, and you are listening to the Finding Fantasy Reads podcast where you can test out a new fantasy story every single week to find your next favorite author.
I’m so excited to be able to share today’s story with you. Not only is it a super fun adventure story with dragons and a race of people with built-in armor, it’s also written by my good friend Constance Lopez. We started exchanging books for critiques a couple years ago, which is a super vulnerable thing that either quickly makes people friends or quickly shows how incompatible you are. And I’m happy to say we had the first experience.
Constance is actually a romantic fantasy writer, and while this particular story doesn’t reflect the sweet romance that’s usually in her stories, it’s proof that romance writers can still write excellent action. Constance grew up having epic duels in the woods with her siblings, and nature is still one of her favorite places to be. If she isn’t out there dictating her stories (did I mention she’s the one who got me hooked on dictating?) she’s dragging her children and husband on adventures. They sound a bit like me because she says they always enjoy it once they’re outside, and I tend to need that push as well. And while she claims they don’t go out in the summer because of their Texas heat, I would like to fight her for rights to the most miserable summer heat.
