Karyne (00:00:07) – Hi fantasy readers. This is Karyne Norton, your fellow book binger, and you are listening to the Finding Fantasy Reads podcast where you can test out a new fantasy story every single week to find your next favorite author.

If you missed last week’s episode, you’ll want to go back and check it out, because today’s story is part two of an adventure fantasy with a newly appointed captain tasked with chasing down a pirate king. It’s written by Z.R. McCormick, who outgrew his childhood of cloaks, wooden bows, and plastic swords, which were likely burned to the joy of his neighbors and their landscaping, but never quite left behind the wonder. This short story is a prequel for Zach’s debut novel, which is currently on Kickstarter.

Today’s narrator is Paeter Frandsen, host of Christian Geek Central. Stick around to the end or check out today’s show notes to see where you can find Zach’s Kickstarter and Paeter’s podcast. For now, please enjoy The Chase: Part 2, by Z.R. McCormick.

Paeter (00:01:17) –  The Chase: Part 1 is read by Paeter Frandsen. Due to copyright, the full transcript of the story cannot be included here.

Karyne (00:36:21) – I hope you enjoyed listening to The Chase: Part 1, by Z.R. McCormick, narrated by Paeter Frandsen of Christian Geek Central. Zach’s Kickstarter for Awakening, the first book in the Oathsworn Chronicles, is almost over, so if you’re not listening to this the day it came out, you’ll likely have to check out Zach’s website at zrmccormick.com to see where and when you can find his debut novel. I’ll have a direct link in the show notes for both the Kickstarter and the website, just in case.

If you enjoyed listening to Paeter narrate the story, you might also enjoy listening to his audio dramas at spiritblade.com or his podcast, Christian Geek Central, where he discusses movies, video games, and all things enjoyed by self-proclaimed geeks from a Christian worldview.

It might surprise you to know that I don’t get notified when someone leaves a review for the podcast. In fact, every couple months I have a reminder on my phone to go check for new reviews on Apple Podcasts, Amazon, Podcast Addict, and Podchaser, which are the only places people can leave reviews. Part of the reason I do this is so I can see if there’s anything we need to be doing differently, but it’s also a great reminder for me of why I’m doing this and it motivates me to keep the podcast going.

For example, this week I found a review from BigJoe777 that says, “The Courtship of Giants podcast episode was wonderful. The reader did a fantastic job of conveying the imagery and tone of the writing. His voice is well-suited to narration. The story is delightful. I don’t know if all those creatures exist in mythology, but they certainly now exist in my brain.” It’s an absolute joy to partner with authors to bring their stories to life for readers. And knowing we accomplished that for BigJoe777 is a huge win.

If there’s an episode you loved, let us know in a review. And yes, it really is just those four platforms that take reviews. Technically, Spotify will let you leave ratings and then comments on episodes, but not reviews. For step-by-step instructions for the platform of your choice, go to findingfantasyreads.com/review. I’ll have a direct link in the show notes.

Thank you all for listening and happy reading.

If you haven’t already signed up for the Finding Fantasy Reads newsletter, now is the time. Each week you get an email letting you know what episode has been added, but I also include links to deals on audiobooks, new releases, and freebies from my featured authors, as well as anything else that I think might interest someone who enjoys fantasy audiobooks and short stories. And with the awards coming up in the near future, it’s a great way to make sure you have the opportunity to vote, because the link will be sent directly to you. Did I just sneak in an announcement that Finding Fantasy Reads awards are returning? Why yes, yes I did. More to come on that in the future.

Thank you all for listening and happy reading.

Featured Author

ZR McCormick

When Z.R. McCormick outgrew his childhood of cloaks, wooden bows, and plastic swords (which were likely burned to the joy of his neighbors and their landscaping), that wonder was never quite left behind.

He began voyages into the world of Aldaria in between a career in IT, enjoying time with his beautiful wife, and chasing his own rambunctious younglings, culminating his debut novel, The Oathsworn Chronicles: Awakening. But until that darkness in Aldaria is vanquished, Z.R. is content to read about someone else’s adventures with a cold brew and a cozy chair which, as you might agree, is rather sensible.

Narrator

Paeter Frandsen

A fan of comic books, sci-fi, and fantasy since childhood, Paeter Frandsen is the owner and chief content creator of Christian Geek Central. He lives in Mesa, AZ with his wife and two sons.
